Music has been a big part of his life since childhood when he joined his parent’s family band with his steel guitar. That love followed him to the Navy is 1957, where he brought his musical talents on board the USS Ashtabula. After meeting several shipmates who were also musicians, he had his family send him his guitar so they could form a little band.  After leaving the Navy in 1960, he returned to Miami County where he has been a lifelong resident.  He plays regularly at several Senior Citizen Centers, plays for Senior Dances, and plays at assisted living and nursing homes.

Wayne started the Retirees Group at Rodeway Express, sends out notices for bi-monthly meetings, and is the current Treasurer.  He is a member of the United Methodist Church, the Elks, MCAA, EAA ans International Commanche Society.  He is the Airport Manager and Miami County Airport Association Treasurer.  He is also the treasurer for his Navy ship the USS Ashtabula and will host the reunion in 2012.

Wayne Harclerode Named 2011 Citizen of the Year

Each year, the Chamber seeks nominations and awards a local individual with the Citizen of the Year award.  This special individual exhibits leadership and vision along with volunteerism within our community.  By displaying exemplary commitment, support, and outreach to other citizens, they make Osawatomie a better place to live.

Wayne Harclerode has spent time giving to our community in many different ways.  He is a pilot and does flyovers for funerals and memorials along with giving rides to youth groups and for fundraising benefits, and had lead Memorial Day Flyovers in the area.
