BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT - PALACE HARDWARE
Jeff Moreland and Mike King, the owners of Palace Hardware came up with the idea to own and operate a hardware store here in Osawatomie together.
Jeff moved back to Osawatomie about five years ago after running several Sonics from Iowa to Florida. He came back to help his family’s business, the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, and ended up not only helping with that, but also opening a much-needed hardware store here in town.
The wheels for this hardware store began turning when Jeff and Mike (who had helped Joe with the upkeep of his rental properties for the past 15 years, in addition to his contracting work) began discussing how much they had to run back and forth from here to several surrounding areas for items as simple as plumbing and paint to much larger items like lumber. That’s when the light came on! Why not open a hardware store here in Osawatomie? They thought not only would the City benefit from its revenue, but the good folks of Osawatomie and the larger businesses here such as the Nursing Homes, the Schools, Tri-Ko to name a few.
After three years of figuring, finding a space large enough to house their idea, help from a great construction crew, recommendations from local contractors, Blish Mize, Pat’s Signs and the many others that contributed to their idea, they were able to officially celebrate their Grand Opening earlier in June.
It wasn’t easy, and after struggling initially with computer bugs, they were able to get everything worked out and have sustained a steady business with the help of their employees, Jeana Ledom, Rebecca Tackle and part time employees, Kerri Springer, Liz Tohle and Gage Hastings.
Palace Hardware offers a variety of services from key cutting to payday loans. They even have a UPS drop off located in their store. They have numerous items for most home projects, for those who craft and for those contractors who might need bigger ticket items. Check with them first and if they can’t get it, they will try their hardest to or direct you to someone who can!
We are very fortunate to have Palace Hardware here in Osawatomie and wish them nothing but the best! Their winter hours are 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays and yes, they are even open on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
They will be hosting a coffee on Tuesday, October 17th at 10:00 a.m. to discuss their products and as a way for you to get to know them and to network with other businesses and community members.
