Friends of The Mentally Ill Foundation
The Friends of the Mentally Ill Foundation hosted the monthly coffee on May 8th at the Chamber Office. Twenty three people attended and Keaton Adams was the lucky winner of a cookbook.
The FMIF is an organization devoted to enriching the lives of persons receiving treatment at Osawatomie State Hospital. Every month they provide treats to patients and recently celebrated Cinco de Mayo with chips and salsa. At Christmas, they provide gifts that benefit all the patients. The foundation does this by obtaining funding for identified projects, equipment, goods, services, or other benefits that are not available from other sources.
Creative fundraising efforts help to fund their efforts. Recently, they spread the word asking for donations of aluminum cans. Many people donated and they received over $200 from the recycling center.
They also sell personalized bricks at the site of Old Main on the State Hospital grounds. For $25, you can order one in memory or in honor of someone special.
Joining this organization is simple. An Annual membership is just $5 (for a voting member). Other member categories are available. Contributions are tax deductible. They are proud to announce that their current membership has reached over 100, which was their goal for this year!
Forms are available at the Chamber Office, or call 913-256-9538 for more information about this local organization devoted to enriching the lives of others.
