The Flint Hills Trail is the seventh-longest rail-trail in America, and the longest trail in Kansas. It follows the general route of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and forms a component of the coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail.
Dubbed “Mile Zero” of the Flint Hills Trail, Osawatomie’s role as the eastern terminus for the 118-mile rail-to-trail makes it the perfect starting (or stopping) point for trail enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, and is within easy driving distance for the majority of the Kansas City metro area. The trail and trailhead are open year round from dawn to dusk for cycling, hiking, walking, and horseback riding. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail except for those used as mobility aides or for approved trail maintenance.

Amenities at Mile Zero include the Walker Station informational kiosk, a solid waste and recycling center, and public restroom facility. The dual parking lots are equipped for a large volume of motor vehicles and the large lot even includes several dedicated stalls for horse trailers. A custom designed pedestrian bridge crosses a ditch 1/4 mile from the trailhead entrance and its design mirrors our two nationally celebrated triple span bridges that bookend the north and south of Osawatomie.

The park also holds playground equipment, shelter houses, picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and plenty of open area for various recreation activities. The camping area is located in the northeast area of the park and has 35 spaces including 10 electrical hookups.

Anna January Park is located at 10th and South Street. Thi small park host a covered picnic area, a basketball net, and play equipment.

The Osawatomie City Lake is a serene spot for fishing and nonmotorized watercraft, located 3 1/2 miles northwest of Osawatomie. Fishermen are always excited for snagging season because Osawatomie boasts one of the only spots for paddlefishing in Kansas, March 15 through May 15. The 75-acre recreational area provides a shelter house, picnic areas, playground equipment and six electrical hookups for campers.
Nestled alongside the lake is the Osawatomie Golf Course. The 18-hole municipal golf course offers a clubhouse, food and beverages, a pro shop, a driving range, and a practice green.
Built in 1941, the course is a parkland golf course design offering two distinct nines, where the front nine puts a premium on approach shots hit into target- sized, gently sloping greens. The back nine, built in 1972, offers more generously sized, undulating greens that put a premium on a player's short game. These distinctions provide a unique golfing experience that rewards players with a complete and well-rounded game.
