BUSINESS OF THE MONTH - FIRST OPTION BANK

First Option Bank (fka First National Bank) was chartered as a federal bank and opened for business in September 1923. Ted E. Lewis purchased the bank in 1970 and the bank still operates under the ownership of the Lewis family today.

In an effort to better serve their customers, an additional bank location was opened in Paola in December 1993 .

The bank changed its name to First Option Bank in January 1999.  The change was initiated by the fact there were some 56 First National Banks in Kansas at that time and there was a desire to create their own image and identity.  The bank also converted from a National to a State charter at that time.

Two additional branch locations opened in 2000 with the LaCygne location opening in May 2000 and Louisburg in August 2000.  The newest First Option Bank facility opened in Spring Hill in September 2007.

First Option Bank purchased the trust assets of failed TeamBank, N.A.  in 2009.  The purchase meant that charitable foundation funds would remain local with grants available for many non-profit organizations.

The bank introduced their School Logo Check Card Program in 2007; and since that time around $1,200,000 has been raised for area schools with over $280,000 of that amount donated to the Osawatomie schools.

Community involvement, superior customer service, honesty and integrity are long-standing traditions of First Option Bank.  They strive daily to take the best possible care of their customers with the offering of  traditional banking services as well as trust, investments and insurance.
